Breathe Electric was born in the Chicago suburban basement of brainchild Grant Harris in 2007, apparently after watching "Step Up 2." I am positive that this is the kind of music I would write if I had just seen Channing Tatum dancing with his shirt off in the rain.
I don't know where or when this dance/electro craze scene started with the kids but it is saturating the scene and for the most part it tends to be awful. It isn't hard to sound good when you have your voice auto tuned to Cher proportions, but that doesn't mean you can write good songs. Breathe Electric can write good songs. This isn't The Postal Service but it is still good, my sister loves it, she also LOVES Jesse McCartney so I don't know if that is a compliment. If I had a synthesizer and a drum program I would be writing music like this for sure.
If I were a 16 year old girl (or 30 in my sister’s case) then I can guarantee you that I would be bumping this stuff in my Barbie Car Electric Convertible with the top down and the volume turned up to 11, while in route to the mall, to meet my friends Stacy and Erica, to scam on dudes and pick up some diggies. Alas, and sadly, I am not a 16 year old girl and I do not own an electric Barbie Car so I am stuck listening to full grown men play guitars and drums and bass guitars with precision and grace.
If I were to compare these guys to their rock equivalent I would say that they are the
Deftones in 1999, fully rocking and at their peak. This is the new phase of music the little ones are on right now for the next few months to possibly a year. So prepare for Breathe Electric to blow up in the next few months, but then prepare for their careers to blow up into the atmosphere a few months after.
